Ross Vasta was elected to the House of Representatives as Member for the new seat of Bonner in the 2004 October Federal Election. Prior to entering Parliament, Mr Vasta graduated from Griffith University with a Bachelor of Commerce and went on to gain extensive experience in the small business industry. 

Living locally for over 30 years he owned and managed a chain of highly successful restaurants.
In 2001 Mr Vasta first entered the political arena whenf he ran against sitting Member, Kevin Rudd, for the Federal seat of Griffith.  Through his experience he gained a strong sense of community awareness and developed relationships with many local community organisations. His experience and determination to make a difference ultimately led him to contest and win the seat of Bonner in 2004.


Ross Vasta has both a passion for people and a practical understanding of small business.  Having also worked as a Marketing Manager from 1992-1994 he is an Associate Fellow of the Australian Marketing Institute (AFAMI) and a member of the Institute of Personnel Management Australia (MIPMA). Mr Vasta currently works as a Business Development Manager for a Finance company.

Six Key Achievements while in Office:

  1. $436,769 to fix three dangerous traffic intersections in the
    Bayside which will include improved lighting, clearer signage
    and installation of traffic islands which made our local roads
    safer for both motorists and pedestrians;
  2. Funding totalling over  $3 million for 33 local schools for
    projects developed by the schools to meet the specific needs of
    students;
  3. $27,691 for local Bush-care and Coast-care projects to manage
    the nature refuge habitat and biodiversity in the Moreton Bay
    catchment and undertake training to survey Moreton Bay's foreshore
    for marine debris;
  4. Supporting fourteen community projects worth $520,570 that
    resulted in local schools and community organisations saving water
    through recycling and the installation of rainwater tanks and
    water saving devices;
  5. New Medicare office and Australian Hearing Centre established in
    Wynnum;
  6. Family Relationship Centre opened in July 2007 for Upper Mt
    Gravatt and the Southside community.
