LNP offers fair go for Redlands commuters

LNP member for Redlands Peter Dowling, today welcomed the announcement by Campbell Newman that a CanDo LNP Government would reduce the cost of commuting for loyal public transport users by reintroducing discounted weekly fares for go card users.

Mr Dowling said regular commuters who used go cards on the Translink system, to travel on buses, trains and ferries in South East Queensland nine times in a week would be rewarded with additional trips free.

“This will be a real saving and an incentive to use public transport to and from work, with the trip home on Friday free, and bonus free weekend travel. For commuters in the Redlands public transport has become too expensive.” Mr Dowling said.

“The Bligh government has failed commuters by forcing up prices, while failing to provide a frequent public transport network, add to this that the Government have failed to implement Translink on the SMBI which would also benefit commuters and transport services in the Redlands.

“Under the tired, 20 year Labor government, the cost of public transport tickets is doubling over the next five years, and not surprisingly, public transport’s share of commuters has stagnated for the past 15 years.

“The LNP will reward daily commuters and bring the cost of living down and the LNP would save a daily bus commuter to the Brisbane CBD from Victoria Point in the Redlands at least $5.29 a week(go card peak full fare) a week in savings.” stated Mr Dowling.

A CanDo LNP Government if elected, is committed to reducing the cost of living, including public transport for all of Queensland.
