LNP committed to helping strengthen families for a stronger Queensland

Leader of the LNP Campbell Newman today gave a ‘rock solid’ commitment that an LNP government will support Queensland families to make our communities stronger and safer.

Mr Newman said the LNP will deliver lower costs of living and ensure the economic dividends of Queensland’s wealth are shared through better roads, local community infrastructure, emergency health services and greater support to our children.

“We believe strong families are the cornerstone of a strong Queensland but for far too long under this tired 20 year Labor government, families have been punished more and more through increased taxes and charges, water, car registration and electricity costs,” Mr Newman said

“The LNP will support families by growing a four pillar economy and reducing unemployment to 4% in 6 years so hardworking Queenslanders can have jobs and provide for their families – because we believe families know their needs better than governments.

“By cutting waste and lowering the cost of living for families, the LNP will ease the pressure on family budgets.

“The LNP will freeze family car rego for the first term of an LNP Government, reduce water prices and reform electricity tariffs. We will also reduce the cost of housing by cutting Labor’s new stamp duty slug on the family home saving up to $7000.

“The economic dividends of a strong economy will be shared among all Queenslanders through the delivery of better basic services.

“An LNP Government will ensure our children get the best possible start in life by getting action on the basics at school and supporting school chaplains.

“Under Labor, Queensland children are languishing at the bottom of the nation for reading, writing and maths but an LNP government will act to make Queensland one of the leading states in the nation for literacy and numeracy by 2020.

“We understand local school communities know what best suits their student’s needs and so we will allow schools to choose to become Independent Public Schools to drive higher standards in education.

“We will commit up to $26 million extra to give Principals more choice to select tailored literacy and numeracy programs that are matched to the needs of their students and invest an additional $115 million over four years to Build our Future Schools. This capital funding is over and above the LNP’s commitment to properly fund a strong state school system.

“Through Get in the Game, the LNP will provide $16 million to support young kids to get involved in sporting groups, especially those families struggling with the costs.”

Mr Newman also committed an LNP Government to deliver better access to critical health services for families in need of emergency care.

“We will invest $92 million to establish a Maternal and Child Health Service to give all mums and bubs the best possible start to life. This service will visit newborn parents’ homes and run free community health clinics,” Mr Newman said.

Mr Newman said Labor had failed families living in regional Queensland but unlike Labor, the LNP will deliver real support to regional families by investing in social infrastructure like schools, hospitals, recreational and sporting facilities.

Mr Newman also said the LNP will make our streets and communities safer through its Safer Streets Crime Action Plan.

“An LNP Government will renew Neighbourhood Watch and Crime Stoppers and crack down on graffiti. We will also ensure there are 1300 more front line police on the beat by employing an additional 1100 new police and deploying 200 experienced officers back on the front line,” Mr Newman said.

“But for Queensland families to receive real support, lower costs of living and revitalised health, education and police services, we need a change of government.

“It’s time for a change. With your help the LNP will invest in families and get Queensland Back on Track.”
