Anna Bligh was again deceiving Queenslanders when she claimed Labor was releasing details of how it was paying for its election promises as each policy was announced, the State Opposition said today.
Deputy Opposition Leader Tim Nicholls said there were a string of Labor policies announced in recent weeks with no details of where the money was coming from.
“Anna Bligh has broken promises about asset sales, the fuel tax and electricity prices, and she can’t even tell the truth about how Labor is paying for its election pledges,” he said.
“Labor hasn’t explained where the money is coming from to pay for an $8.75m Townsville Paediatric Intensive Care Unit, a $7.5m police helicopter and a $32m special school in Cairns, to name just a few examples.
“Anna Bligh’s claim she will provide $300 million in her copycat royalties for regions fund also doesn’t stack up given her Treasurer Andrew Fraser released a mid year budget update only two months ago showing the royalties for the next four years had already been spent.
“Either the $300 million has been buried in the budget with hidden cuts or Andrew Fraser’s surplus in 2014-15 is in danger of disappearing.
“After 20 years of waste, broken promises and scandals, it’s clear Anna Bligh and Labor will do, say and spend anything to cling to power.”
Mr Nicholls said the LNP had announced that respected former Auditor-General Len Scanlan will independently verify the costing of the LNP’s election commitments.
“The LNP’s policy commitments are part of a comprehensive plan to get Queensland back on track and are fully funded, with the full costings and savings to be released before the election,” he said.
Mr Nicholls said Queenslanders couldn’t believe anything Anna Bligh and Andrew Fraser claimed about the LNP’s costings.
“At the 2009 election, Andrew Fraser released a single A4 page costings document with just $49.85 million in expenditure identified and no mention of the fuel tax and asset sales,” he said.
“Andrew Fraser will no doubt try the same trick again and Queenslanders will rightly be asking what secret plans Labor are keeping hidden until after the election this time.
“It’s time for a change. Only an LNP Government will cut the waste and grow a strong four pillar economy to get Queensland back on track.”
