The Bligh Labor Government made a media announcement of a 12 month trial of school zone signage a year and a half ago, but has done nothing since.
Flashing school zone lights are effective in getting motorists to slow down. How long do Queensland parents have to wait for action to be taken? It's time to take action to protect Queensland students by a deliberate, planned program to install them.
The CanDo LNP team will plan for the future safety of school zones, not live for the daily media cycle.
LNP Policy Commitment:
The LNP is committed to:
- Improving the safety of children near schools by combating the surge in speeding through school zones; and
- Stopping people speeding through school zones in the first place.
To date, the LNP has committed to:
- Spend $10 million over four years to improve the visibility of speed limit signs in school zones.
- Install flashing speed limit signs outside around 75 Queensland schools.
- Give priority to schools with a significant crash history, a high level of car and pedestrian traffic, higher speed limits or visibility problems.
