Keith Pitt will contest the seat of Hinkler for the LNP at next year’s federal election.
A married father of three children, Mr Pitt operates his own small business providing safety and training services to more than 1000 local businesses with a staff of 15 and over 10,000 local students.
Born into a local sugarcane farming family, he has also worked as an apprentice, tradesman, farmer and manager.
His community service includes 10 years as a surf life saver and support for the Volunteer Marine Rescue and Wide Bay International Airshow.
LNP State Director Brad Henderson said Mr Pitt was a proven hard worker with the real life experience and energy to serve the people of Hinkler.
“Keith Pitt has lived and worked throughout Hinkler all his life so he understands this region, its industries and its people,” Mr Henderson said.
“In Keith Pitt, Hinkler will have a strong, common sense voice in Federal Parliament who knows how to get results.”
Mr Pitt said the region offered a great lifestyle but Julia Gillard’s minority government of Labor, Greens and Independents was hurting local people.
“We need a change of government in Canberra,” Mr Pitt said.
“Families are feeling the pressure with the rising cost of living and the lack of confidence in the federal government is impacting on job security and investment in our region.
“Our current MP Paul Neville has served Hinkler with distinction. With the support of the community, I hope to build on his legacy as part of a Coalition Government that will build a stronger, more secure Australia.”
Mr Pitt was selected by a meeting of local LNP members today following the Member for Hinkler Paul Neville’s decision to retire at the next election after 20 years service.
