Leaked email exposes SCUH and Nambour health services slashed

14 November 2023

Health jobs are being slashed by Labor at Sunshine Coast University Hospital (SCUH) and Nambour Hospital after leaked documents revealed Labor is making cuts to frontline positions.

Whistle-blowers have revealed up to 21 full time equivalent positions are set to be impacted.

Deputy Leader of the Opposition and Kawana MP Jarrod Bleijie said the health cuts are a devastating blow for staff just 41 days out from Christmas.

“The chaos and crisis within the Palaszczuk Labor Government has led to frontline admin staff losing hours at Sunshine Coast University Hospital and Nambour Hospital,” Mr Bleijie said.

“Our dedicated frontline staff are working double and triple shifts to keep the health system on the rails and provide the best patient care.

“Staff were also told to go to the Salvation Army, St Vinnies and the National Debt Hotline for assistance. That’s just heartless.

“The Health Minister must immediately reverse this cruel decision.

“Nurses and other health professionals will now be slugged with an extra workload to fill the gaps, at a time when they’re already exhausted.

“This is the result of nine years of poor planning from an arrogant third-term government that has stopped listening to Queenslanders.

“Only the LNP has the right priorities for Queensland’s future and that includes easier access to health services. We’ve also put solutions on the table including better resources, better triaging, sharing data in real-time and putting doctors and nurses back in charge to improve patient care.

“Our frontline staff deserve more respect and resources, not less.”
