The Liberal National Party has today announced that current Holland Park Ward Councillor Ian McKenzie, will contest Coorparoo Ward for Team Quirk at the 2016 Council election.
Lord Mayor Graham Quirk said Cr McKenzie had been a strong local representative for his community and a hardworking member of Team Quirk.
“Since first being elected in 2008, Ian has delivered some great projects in his local area, with school safety initiatives and numerous traffic congestion-reduction projects as well as initiating the creation of the Coorparoo and Districts Neighbourhood Plan,” Cr Quirk said.
Cr McKenzie said he was looking forward to continuing to work with local residents, as well as gaining some new suburbs and provide them with an experienced voice in City Hall.
“With the redistribution, I will be gaining some new areas, while retaining half of my existing ward, if I am successful at the 2016 election. This includes the rest of Coorparoo, where the current Councillor is retiring.
I look forward to working with those residents on continuing to deliver a new parkland in Coorparoo and working to improve Coorparoo Junction into a vibrant commercial strip”.
“I am also committed to continuing the revitalisation of the Stones Corner precinct during the next term of Council”.
“When I am out in the community, people are telling me their number one concern is traffic and roads, so I will be looking at what else can be done to ease congestion on some of our key corridors.
“I also look forward to working with the community to develop the Coorparoo and Districts Neighbourhood Plan, to create a plan that reflects the views of residents for the future of our local area.”
Cr. McKenzie will work closely with Cr. Adrian Schrinner to ensure residents of Carina Heights and Camp Hill have a seamless transition to the new Coorparoo Ward from the Chandler Ward.
