Get in the Game

A CanDo LNP Government will act to get more Queensland kids actively involved in grass roots sport.

An LNP Government will support active participation in sporting clubs through our new Get in the Game initiative. Get in the Game will help young Queenslanders get involved in sport, and will provide assistance to sporting clubs for better programs, equipment and facilities.

An LNP Government will act to cut the cost of living for Queensland families. The LNP's Get in the Game policy is unashamedly focussed on building up sporting clubs again from the grass roots, with direct funding for community sporting clubs.

We want to get more young people into sport, encouraging an active community, but also helping to grow the sporting greats of tomorrow.

The Commonwealth Games on the Gold Coast in 2018 will give Queenslanders a strong new sporting focus, provide an excellent platform to encourage more Queenslanders to get into sport, and inspire them to strive to become Queensland, Australian and international sporting stars of the future.

An LNP Government will commit $16 million over three years for community sporting organisations through the Get in the Game initiative.

Get in the Game will increase participation in community sport and recreation throughout Queensland and enhance the existing suite of government sport funding programs.

The LNP's Get in the Game initiative will offer young Queenslanders a new opportunity to get involved in sporting and recreational clubs through better facilities, increased awareness of various sports in their local area and, for those young people who might not otherwise be able to afford it, the chance to join a sports club.

An LNP Government will help Queensland families by lowering the cost of living. With your help the LNP will get Queensland Back on Track.

Get in the Game will be made up of three 3 sub-programs:

1. GetStarted ($6 million)

GetStarted will provide funds to assist kids who can't afford to join a sporting club to do so through the payment of annual club fees up to $150 per child.

The LNP will engage Local Jobs Plan officers, teachers, police, community leaders and councils to help distribute funds to families.

2. GetGoing – Programs and Equipment Grants ($2 million)

This program will provide clubs with one-off grants of up to $10,000 to be used towards equipment, club promotion materials, training, running of come-and-try sessions and other items or activities designed to increase sporting and recreation club membership.

Clubs will be able to apply for this funding in competitive rounds.

3. GetPlaying – Minor Facility Grants ($8 million)

The GetPlaying program will provide one-off funding up to $100,000 for facility development and upgrades to improve club facilities which will also assist in handling increased club membership.

Eligible clubs who are successful will be required to contribute a minimum of 20 per cent of the total project cost which may include cash, in-kind support and/or volunteer labour.

LNP Policy Commitments:

• $16 million over three years to help Queenslanders Get in the Game

• Help the kids most in need to join sporting clubs and GetStarted

• Help community sporting clubs afford the equipment and facilities they need to GetGoing and GetPlaying
